DRUM CORPS INTERNATIONAL (DCI) COMPETITION MARCHING INTO A MOVIE THEATRE NEAR YOU
One Night Live Simulcast of the DCI World Championship Quarterfinals from INVESCO Field in Denver, Colorado On August 5th
New York, NY (8/2/2004) -- On August 5th, the country's top drum corps will march onto the big screen for the first time in a special one night presentation of the Drum Corps International (DCI) World Championship Quarterfinals at 43 Regal Entertainment Group ("REG" NYSE: RGC) movie theatres across the country.
Since its' founding in 1972, Drum Corps International (DCI) has delivered 3,231 World Championship competitions from 16 cities to more than half a million fans in stadiums across the U.S. The 2004 Championship Quarterfinals, simulcast live from INVESCO Field in Denver, Colorado, marks the first time ever that drum corps fans will be able to experience the thunder of the drums and the thrill of the competition on the big screen. The live simulcast will feature the top 17 Division I drum corps performing in their entirety, with highlight clips of the first seven corps that performed earlier in the day preceding the live simulcast. The DCI World Championship Quarterfinals will be presented in high definition quality and cinema surround sound.
This exclusive in-theatre event, presented by Regal CineMediaSM (RCM) entertainment services, will premiere in select Regal Cinemas, United Artists Theatres and Edwards Theatres* nationwide on August 5th at 7:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. CT / 5:00 p.m. MT / 4:00 p.m. PT. Tickets are available in advance for $15.00, or $18.00 on event day at participating box offices or online at www.Regalcm.com.
"For the thousands of fans who can't make it to Denver for the finals, this is absolutely the next best thing," said Dan Acheson, executive director and CEO of Drum Corps International. "The whole idea is to give the drum corps fans an experience similar to being at the World Championships site, except they'll be able to savor the power, precision and pageantry of drum corps while enjoying popcorn and Skittles in the friendly environment of their local theatre!"
"The DCI Championship is another example of the exciting ways that we are using our theatres to bring unique, entertaining events to our audiences around the country," said Ray Nutt, executive vice president of Regal CineMedia. "Your local Regal Entertainment Group movie theatre isn't just a movie theatre any more. With the new advances in technology, it's now also an event stadium, a concert hall, and a meeting place for the local community."
